Course Description

This class will use as its base material two of Harold Pinter’s most iconic plays, The Homecoming (1964) and Betrayal (1978), two plays dealing with relational manipulation, through very different time frames and social contexts. This course will allow us to engage in fundamental questions about both acting and directing theatre from this period. Combining student directors and student actors with total generational flexibility, we will begin by reading the plays together and selecting scenes to be worked on from both a directorial and an actor's perspective, examining style, relationship, rhythm etc. Student directors will be responsible for directing chosen scenes under the guidance of the instructor. Students are expected to arrive having previously read both plays. No accents required!
