Environmental Scan of Public Education

Project Summary

To contribute to the organization’s mission of improving the lives of women and girls, I worked with the YW Kitchener-Waterloo (YW KW) on an environmental scan of public education efforts in the region, across Canada, and in 3 other countries. This scan was the first step for the YW KW Advocacy Team’s strategic plan process. I produced a database and a report which documented my research methodology, critical analyzed the 55 entries, noted training gaps, and provided recommendations. The Team sought to find inspiration and new ideas from other communities, particularly from other organizations using an intersectional feminist lens in their work.

Professional Value & Impact

Doing this project gave me practice with a useful community engagement tool. Not only did I develop skills for doing an environmental scan, but it was also so inspiring to see the different community engagement initiatives that organizations in the Waterloo Region and across Canada and the world are doing. It gave me a lot of hope!
