One piece of advice that Dr. Issa Traoré wished he knew when he started working in the cybersecurity field 25 years ago is: “Cybersecurity is an arms race…the bad guys are one step ahead.” Dr. Traoré is a full Professor at the University of Victoria (UVic), Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and an Adjunct Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). He is the Founder and Director of the Information Security and Object Technology (ISOT) Laboratory established in 1999.

Holds a Master’s Degree in aeronautical engineering from the Ecole de l'Air Salon de Provence, France, MENG in Aeronautics and Space Techniques and MSc in Computer Engineering from the ENSAE (Ecole Nationale Superieure de l’Aeronautique et de l’Espace) in Toulouse, France, and a PhD in Software Engineering from Institute Nationale Polytechnique - Toulouse, France
Published five books and over 200 papers in archival journals and conferences
Granted five patents in cybersecurity, including biometrics technologies, emerging authentication technologies, and anti-phishing solutions
Presented research papers at several cybersecurity conferences and has been featured as a keynote lecturer several times

More about Dr. Traoré

Dr. Traoré helped create microcredentials in safe app practices, safe browsing practices, and safe network practices for The Chang School using his 25 years of experience working in the cybersecurity field. He is the Co-Founder of two cybersecurity companies: Plurilock Security Solutions Inc. and Email Veritas Security Technologies Ltd. Dr. Traoré is also currently a Senior Area Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security (TIFS) journal.

His advice to those looking to get into the industry is: “Be open minded and curious and nobody knows everything at the beginning. Don’t feel intimidated, you’ll grow in the profession.”
