Whether you need university-level qualification to compliment your undergraduate degree or to get trained on digital architecture technologies and building codes and materials related to Canada’s northern climate, the Certificate in Architecture will help you get there.

This six-course certificate is the only one of its kind available online and is shorter than similar programs offered at other post-secondary institutions. Because it isn’t a full-time program, you can continue working and get the credentials you need.

Curriculum Change Note: Students who registered in the certificate prior to July 2, 2022, should refer to the archived calendar for the curriculum details of your year of registration. Students who require CKAR 103 should take CKAR 601, and those that need CKAR 300 should now take CKAR 215.

  • New Canadians looking to get Canadian credentials and have Canadian-based training related to our climate. (New Canadians can only become architects if they take an accredited four-year undergraduate degree and a Master’s degree at a Canadian university but may be employed in architectural technologist positions after completing this certificate.)

In this certificate, you will learn how to use the digital architecture technologies that employers are looking for. These include but are not limited to:

  • AutoCAD
  • REVIT

You will also learn all of the building regulations, policies, sustainable building practices, building materials for the Canadian climate, which will give you Canadian-specific training and knowledge.

Courses in the Certificate in Architecture are offered year-round, in the Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer terms. However, not all courses are offered every term. Check course descriptions for details.

Can I enrol directly into the Certificate in Architecture?
Yes. The Certificate in Architecture is open admissions. No previous background is required. Visit How to Register for a Certificate Program for details.

Are practical elements of the certificate taught online or in-person?
Yes. A live architecture studio is offered online via weekly Zoom sessions with an expert architect instructor to help students while they work on their portfolios.

This gives you the ability to work in a hands-on virtual lab setting with customized, live feedback.
