Students will learn how to work with supervisors and collaborate effectively with colleagues in other roles and departments. Emphasis will be placed on effective communication, giving and receiving feedback, communicating with people from equity-seeking or traditionally marginalized populations, and on understanding studio workflows and production pipelines.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the application of project management practices and tools such as agile, scrum, and swimlane diagrams to video game development.
  • Use project tracking software to aid in the project management process.
  • Provide constructive and fulsome feedback to colleagues.
  • Accept feedback from colleagues and supervisors and incorporate it effectively into work.
  • Work with project managers and communicate effectively about timelines and work status.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues, including those from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Engage in version control practices.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of development pipelines.

Assessment of Certificate Learning Outcomes

Certificate competencies will be assessed primarily through assignments with deliverables that can be integrated into a career portfolio, with hands-on activities being used judiciously and primarily to provide students with feedback.

Students will be assessed on their ability to develop collaborative relationships and manage projects throughout the term using a combination of simulations and small assignments. Effective communication and collaboration with people from equity-seeking and historically marginalized groups and different cultural backgrounds will be included.
