Course Description

This course explores the development of young children's thinking and learning through a cross-cultural lens. Critical discussion of the Western value of cognition and its theoretical assumptions will provide students with an understanding of how these values are embedded in early learning. This course will then provide multiple perspectives on thinking and learning (colonial models, apprenticeship models, indigenous models) as they are conceptualized across cultures and as they relate to professional roles with children.
