Course Description

This course examines modern propaganda, a distinctive form that dates to the turn of the twentieth century, and follows its evolution during the World Wars and the Cold War; its application in the First Gulf War; and in the Global War on Terror in response to the 9/11 attacks. Analysis of these events will illustrate propaganda's successes and failures as well as its unintended consequences, from military/political "blowback" to the fuelling of conspiracy culture.
