Course Description

This course surveys art practices and theories from the late nineteenth century through the twentieth century. Exploring varying geographic locations and cultural contexts, the course examines the global scope and conflicting meanings of ???modernity??? and ???modernism,??? multiple legacies of the early avant-garde, the relationship between social upheaval and art, the development of the international art market, and the emergence of late-twentieth century postmodernism.
