CDPB 995 - Publishing Pathways: Editorial Intensive
Course Description
The Chang School’s Publishing Certificate program at Toronto Metropolitan University is known for its in-depth, professional-level editorial training. The Editorial Intensive offers four of our core courses, delivered in 10 weeks by industry professionals. This unique fast-track program includes an introduction to trade publishing, where you will learn how editors work in a publishing team, followed by skills-based training in practical grammar, copyediting, and substantive editing. Upon finishing the program, you will have built a solid editorial foundation that you can further supplement with additional specialized Publishing Certificate courses.

Program Design
- Four full-term Publishing Certificate courses offered in a hybrid format, including both online and classroom learning, for 10 weeks in May, June, and early July
- Ongoing instructor and academic coordinator support and mentorship, as well as access to other services and support
- Access to internships, job opportunities, and program awards
- Learning consists of online modules and in-class (on-campus) learning, students will complete coursework, assignments, and other projects during the week.
Software access is covered by The Chang School for the duration of the intensive.

Scheduling
How it works:
Learning is scheduled between May 5 and July 13, 2025, and will feature a mix of online and in-person (on-campus) learning. You can review the “courses” accordion for a breakdown.
Online Learning
Learning throughout the week will be online, with asynchronous modules that include discussion boards, exercises, readings, and assignments.
On-Campus Sessions on Weekends
In-person sessions will be offered on most Saturdays and Sundays between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.*
Optional in-person experiential learning activities may also be available on select Fridays. These will be scheduled at various sites in the GTA.
*On-campus sessions will be scheduled within this timeframe, with the exact scheduling to be provided by the individual instructors.
FAQ
Can I select specific courses?
The intensive is designed for learners to take all four courses. If you are interested in selecting specific Publishing courses, visit the Certificate webpage, or contact ce@torontomu.ca for guidance.
How to Register
- Before February 5, 2025: Learners interested in reserving a spot in the program can register for free by completing the Publishing Pathways: Editorial Intensive Registration form.
- Beginning February 5, 2025, learners will be asked to pay a deposit to keep their reserved spot.
- After February 5, 2025: Learners can register by selecting the course offering and paying the deposit.
The balance payment of $2,705.89 can be made following your initial deposit, up to April 15, 2025.
Total cost of the four-course program: $3,605.89 (consisting of an initial $900 deposit and a second payment of $2,705.89).
Refund Policy
All fees paid are refundable up to April 14, 2025. Deposit payments of $900 made after April 14th are non-refundable. Second fee payments are refundable up to five business days before the start of the intensive, with 50% refundable up to 10 calendar days after the start. After 10 days, all fees are non-refundable.
