Course Description

This course offers students an intensive orientation to all critical aspects of practicing midwifery in Canada. Through group discussions and written reflections, and the examination of key guideline documents and protocols. Content includes: history of midwifery in Canada, the Canadian midwifery model, philosophy and ethics of midwifery, evidence-based care, transition to primary care roles and models, Canada's health care system and clinical competencies for midwives. By the conclusion of the course, IEMs will be knowledgeable about the practice of midwifery in Canada.
