Course Description

This course will provide a chronological survey of the history of costume. An analysis of period dress for men and women will be contextualized within the framework of supporting social and cultural infrastructures. Particular emphasis will be placed on dress practices in Western culture from Antiquity to the mid-Eighteenth Century, addressing the evolution of fashion as a form of culture that reflects both technological and social change.
