CHSM 301 - The Healthcare Systems
Course Description
The course introduces participants to the organization and operation of the health systems of Canada. The initial section focuses on the client as the consumer of health services. Discussion is focused on the historical concepts of the provider-client relationships; integrated client-centered care. Also examined are major institutional and community components and the interrelationships; role of governments and the health professions in shaping the current system; funding; planning for healthcare; the impact of access to services with the shift from the institutionally-based illness model with curative technology to a wellness model stressing client rights, community development and health promotion in a climate of the learning organization with quality improvement initiatives.Sample Course Outline

Online course sections are primarily asynchronous, except for the one-hour weekly live online sessions. In addition to the live sessions, you will engage in course-related activities through online tools such as announcements, discussions, and email to complement your independent learning. Note: There will be deadlines for assignment submissions, and you may be expected to participate in discussion board interactions with your peers on a regular basis.
