Course Description

This capstone course provides an opportunity to integrate and apply the knowledge and skills acquired through previous courses. Individually or in small groups, and with course instructor approval, students select a project that reflects their own personal or professional interests. Examples of possible projects include the development of a presentation based on analysis of a set of real life scenarios or the analysis of a community issue or situation from the student's own professional milieu.

Notes

Students are encouraged to contact the Academic Coordinator, Jennifer Ajandi, at jajandi@torontomu.ca to plan their capstone enrolment.

This course is fully online and asynchronous, meaning you typically will not have to be online at specific times. You will engage in course-related activities through online tools such as announcements, discussions, and email. Your course learning will be based on weekly module content and activities that you can go through independently. Note: there are still deadlines for assignment submissions, and you may be expected to participate in discussion board interactions with your peers on a regular basis.

Your instructor may also include occasional scheduled sessions for Q&As and other discussion activities, using web conferencing tools such as Zoom and Google Meet. More details will be included in your course outline available on the first day of class.

Students may choose one of the following three options:

  1. Develop a project-based experiential learning opportunity with the Experiential Learning (EL) Coordinator. The EL will facilitate an opportunity for students to develop their transferrable skills based on professional interests and current project availability in community settings. This may include drawing from existing community project opportunities or creating new ones, when available.
  2. The student may facilitate the creation of their own project-based experiential learning opportunity in their place of work, identifying a project advisor and working with the EL to ensure appropriate learning parameters will be met.
  3. The student may facilitate the creation of their own project-based experiential learning opportunity at another organization they are currently connected with or will develop a relationship with, identifying a project advisor and working with the EL to ensure appropriate project parameters are developed.
