This course examines how scientific technology both reflects and transforms our society, and how it created key fundamental industries in our high-tech, energy-dependent society. It covers the invention of modern electrical and transportation systems, modern warfare, problems of biotechnology, the ethics of industrial chemistry, nuclear energy and the atomic bomb, and the computer revolution.
