What is Privacy by Design?
Privacy by Design: The Global Framework explores the challenges inherent in delivering the benefits of digital technologies in tandem with the need to process personal information and protect privacy.
High profile breaches, surveillance initiatives and government secrecy give the impression that privacy and control over one’s personal information are an after-thought, and that privacy measures are introduced only to correct a negative incident, after the fact. Dr. Cavoukian’s Privacy by Design approach counters popular misconceptions that privacy is an obstacle to the efficient and timely delivery of technological services, offering a framework that enables the delivery of both.
Derek's Story
“I was looking to improve my credentials in the field of privacy and saw through a connection on LinkedIn that Toronto Metropolitan University was starting a new certificate program in that area. I actually started a certificate program in access and privacy at another university, but I knew from week one that Toronto Metropolitan University's program was superior.
I started with the Privacy by Design online course, which really took advantage of the online platform with professionally shot videos, interactive quizzes, and links to the latest content. The final course project allowed me to do some practical, substantive work.
Now that I have a job as a Privacy Analyst in the health sector, I am looking forward to taking the Health Information Access and Privacy course.”
